If the word "hypnotherapy" makes you picture a swinging pocket watch and someone clucking like a chicken, you're not alone. That image has done a lot of damage to what is actually one of the most powerful, evidence-supported tools in mental health.
Let's clear that up right now.
You Are Always in Control
Hypnotherapy is not mind control. It is not unconsciousness. You cannot be made to do anything you don't want to do, reveal secrets, or act against your values. What hypnotherapy actually does is help you access a naturally occurring state of focused relaxation — one your brain enters on its own every single day.
You know that feeling right before you fall asleep, when your mind is drifting but you're still aware? That's it. That's the hypnotic state. We work in that space intentionally.
Hypnotherapy doesn't bypass your mind. It works with the part of your mind that is already running the show.
What's Actually Happening in Your Brain
Your subconscious mind governs about 95% of your daily behavior — your reactions, patterns, habits, and automatic responses. Talk therapy is brilliant, but it largely operates at the conscious level. Hypnotherapy goes deeper.
In a relaxed, focused state, your brain becomes more open to new patterns and perspectives. Old stories that have been running on autopilot — "I'm not safe," "I'm not enough," "I have to control everything" — can finally be examined and rewritten.
This is not magic. It is neuroscience.
What Hypnotherapy Can Help With
In my work at Realize Your Path, I use hypnotherapy to help clients with:
- Anxiety and chronic stress
- Trauma and PTSD (often in combination with EMDR)
- Fear, phobias, and avoidance patterns
- Self-worth and confidence
- Breaking cycles that "talk therapy" alone hasn't shifted
If you've ever felt like you understand why you do something but can't stop doing it, hypnotherapy may be the missing piece.
A Note on Who I Work With
My clients aren't broken. They're often incredibly self-aware, motivated, and tired of carrying something they've been carrying for way too long. They're ready to try something that actually goes deep enough to work.
If that's you, I'd love to talk. I offer a free 15-minute consultation so we can see if this is the right fit. No pressure, no sales pitch — just a real conversation about what you're dealing with and what might help.
